OLP’s flagship program. Educational cruises immerse students in the world of ocean science and technology onboard our vessels in Conception Bay, Terra Nova National Park and Bonne Bay. They learn to collect data and operate equipment used in industry and scientific research, such as a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), a low-light, deep-water camera and multi-beam sonar.
A first glimpse for teachers and students into the exciting underwater world just off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Real-time data and video will be streamed directly into the classroom, allowing students to participate remotely in research projects related to invasive species, habitat mapping and sustainable fisheries.
A new program in development for practicing teachers and teachers in training. Field workshops and a Summer Teachers Institute are planned for August 2015. Educators and program specialists with the NL English School District, Department of Education, Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association and MUN Faculty of Education are actively involved in developing the new program.
A growing network of sites, scientists, educators, and government and private funding partners are collaborating on this important ocean education initiative for youth, recognizing its link to our province’s history and economic future.
